This game is great for people who are into kitbashing, blanchitsu, and oldschool grimdark narrative styles of wargaming. The art style and ziney feel feels very akin to 1st edition Rogue Trader and Inquisitor, with the incredibly charming and baroque black and white artwork complimenting this game perfectly.
There's great formatting great formatting and layout making the rules easy to understand. The rules themselves are simple yet allow for great creative freedom with how you structure your games and miniatures. There's plenty of content here to enjoy, making it more complete then most games like it, and the flexibility and easy to learn rules makes this a fun experience for those looking for fun tabletop action.
My one complaint is that the cutout standees that come with the game are too fantasy like for this game. Plus, the lack of sample character sheets was a problem pointed out by the previous review here, although, in my opinion, I'd say that review was overly critical and pointed out problems that didn't exist or were subjective(No offense). I'm glad final edition seems to be addressing these problems, and I hope you can discover this game for yourselves and create your own narratives with it.
Bought this hoping to use it as light rules for space skirmishes, but there isn’t enough there to make it worthwhile.
The core rules themselves aren’t particularly interesting (basic roll under system) and the book mostly dwells on ephemera like tables of special abilities and vehicle customization. I was hoping at least for a couple pages of sample unit stats that I could use out the gate, plus maybe some flavor that helps envision a setting. I got neither.
The art is fun but the fonts, layout, and graphic design make this book actively painful to look at. Even the cutout standees that come with the book are confusing: 3/4 are medieval and don’t seem spaceskirmish-y at all.
